As a budding hipster, Casey has a lot to learn about the South Austin lifestyle. Today he started basic training by hitting the pavement on South Congress.

After parking next to Home Slice Pizza, he hopped into his Baby K’Tan sling and set out for a jaunt among Austin’s tres cool. First stop was American Apparel, home of hipster essentials like leg warmers, poly shorts, warm-up suits and knee-high socks. Next up was Parts and Labour, a semi-socialist shop of bound-for-Etsy goods. Casey passed up a unicorn in the shape of Texas tee though it did give him pause:

We crossed the street to Jo’s, home of some of the best coffee in town. Casey isn’t quite a coffee snob yet, but he’s learning. Here’s his mom slinging an iced mocha:

We crisscrossed scenester street a few more times making our way back up to the car. Casey peeked out from time to time to catch a flannel-wearing, mullet-grooming fashionista:

Last stop was of course Hey Cupcake, the Airstream trailer turned into baked-good barista. We scarfed a Pumpkinator, the latest flavor to hit the trailer just in time for fall. Now that mom and dad are hyped on sugar and caffeine, it’s time for Casey to wake up!

That wrapped up our tour of SoCo for today! Casey smiled all of the way home wondering when he’ll get some oversized sunglasses like his mom and all of the cool kids he met today.
